

Early morning on November 6th 2024, God summoned Rozelle Carrington home. Rozelle transitioned peacefully in her home as she wished. Rozelle was born to Marie Williams Wilkins December 22, 1942 in Halifax County Va. Rozelle graduated from Mary Bethune High School in Halifax Co Va. In 1962, she married her childhood sweetheart, Gilmore Carrington of Virgilina Va, whom she met around the age of 6 or 7. Their love story expanded over 50 years and was a beautiful testament to a lifelong commitment.
Rozelle was a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Newport News Va. She found the utmost joy in her faith, serving in the choir and the hospitality committee. She really loved going to church and receiving the instruments of the Lord.
For over 40 years, her compassion shone through her work as a dietary technician and supervisor in Nursing Homes across Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg. She cared for countless residents, always bringing a smile and joy to their days.
She created cherished memories playing word and board games with family and friends, proudly holding the family championship belt in Boggle, Upwords, and Jotto. She was our family dictionary, always ready with a word or a helpful hint. She loved sports, especially football (Dallas Cowboys), baseball (Atlanta Braves) and basketball (Golden State Warriors). She loved to cook and would whip up something special just so the neighborhood could stop by and get a plate.
Rozelle was preceded in death by her loving husband Gilmore Carrington, her mom Clarice Boxley, her dad William Boxley, her mother Marie Williams Wilkins, her brothers Dallas Williams, Richard Wilkins, Joseph Wilkins, and her sister Susie Mae Harris Jordan (Roosevelt).
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories as she is survived by three sons: Tommy Carrington (Kimberly), Tobias Carrington (Patricia), TeGordon Carrington, one adoring daughter, Tammy Carrington-Furman (Walter); her six grandchildren: Sherae Carrington, Tristen Carrington (Candace), Tiana Bryant (Michael), Jonathan Toles, Francine Gibson, Reginal Gibson; seven great-grandchildren: Tekayla Carrington, Jalen Carrington, Kamari Carrington, Roman Bryant, Kingston Carrington, Lance Bryant, Miatta (Mia) Gibson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Omari Carrington, and Zoey Ruffin.
She is also lovingly remembered by her eight sisters: Beatrice Fitzgerald (Herbert), Deloris Suitt, Marie Poole, Cynthia Gregory (Steve), Hazel Thaxton, Hilda Coley, Annie Rose Barber, Linda Moore (Joseph), three brothers: Ernest Boxley, Stanley Wilkins (Charlotte), Earl Wilkins (Veronica); three brother-in-laws: Raymond Carrington (Phyllis), John Carrington (Margie), and extra special brother-in-law James Carrington; three sister-in-laws: Louise Williams (Timothy), Gladys Carden (Calvin), Phoebe Simms; a very special niece: Francis Harris-Burke (Lawrence); one uncle: Durbert Nick Williams; and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Additionally, her love expanded to include her bonus sons: Hollan Neal, Vincent Davis, Cory Moody; bonus daughters: Patricia Carrington, Kimberly Davis-Carrington, Florene (Ree-Nee) Liverpool, Monique (Mo) Gordon-Johns, Sonia Thacker, and bonus grandchildren: aCheyla Thacker, Gentle Gordon-Johns, Gournee Gordon-Johns.
Rozelle Carrington's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and connection, leaving us with warm memories that we will carry in our hearts forever.
A memorial service for Rozelle will be held Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666, followed by an inurnment at 1:00 PM at Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will welcome friends back to Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home for a repast after the services.
