

Ruben served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He later became a master shipbuilder with Newport News Shipbuilding and retired after over 40 years of service. He was a member of Pine Chapel Baptist Church.
Ruben was preceded in death by his wife, Macy Cook; parents, Joseph and Theodosia Cook; and siblings, Roy Cook, Frank Cook, Thomas Cook, Earl Cook, Edna Southall, Jamie Howe, Mary Williams, and Dorothy Cook. He is survived by his son, Ruben T. Cook, Jr. and wife Tammy of Hampton, VA; step-granddaughters, Kayla Gora of Washington, and Kelly O’Neal of Hampton, VA; step-great-granddaughters, Bayleigh and Brittney Gora, both of Washington, and Grace O’Neal of Hampton, VA; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Ruben’s life will be held at noon, Friday, May 29 at the funeral home, officiated by Pastors David Parker and Danny Deuell. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
