

He was a resident of Hampton, Virginia but proudly born in North Carolina. He graduated from Kecoughtan High School. He loved coaching softball and football to youth, especially to his daughters and son. He was a dedicated supervisor for the Newport News Shipyard for over 30 years.
Owen will always be remembered as a genuine person who loved his family and God. He was soft spoken and aimed to please everyone. He was a simple kind of man with a love of riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle that he called “his baby”. He was a dedicated Miami Dolphins football fan as well. He loved to taking rides to Nags Head with his wife, riding motorcycles with his son, being a listening ear to his daughter, Amanda, and coaching his oldest daughter, Ashley, the game of softball. He was the biggest fan of his only granddaughter, Sophia. He loved to watch her gymnastics meets and tell her to “walk the dog” after she defeated her competitors.
Owen is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Sykes; son, Samuel “O” Sykes Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Robert Frescatore; daughter, Amanda Sykes; granddaughter, Sophia Frescatore; Parents, Samuel Wright Sykes and Janice Sykes; brothers, Linwood and Donald Ray Sykes and sister, Deborah.
Owen will ride through our hearts and lives forever.
