Sandra Jane Watlington

Beloved wife of Donald (Don) Watlington passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Sandra was Mother, Grandmother, great Grandmother, sister and friend to many people. She was born on November 13, 1937 in Worchester, Massachusetts.

Sandra enlisted in the Air Force in 1955. After basic training and technical school, she became an Air Traffic Controller (Base Operations) and was stationed at Stewart Air Force Base, Newburg, New York. There Sandra met and married Her Don. They enjoyed sixty-seven adventurous years together. Sandra was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Gretna, Virginia. She was an active member of Fox Hill Road Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia.

Sandra attended Nurse Training School in Tacoma, Washington becoming an LPN and applying her nursing skills at Hampton General Hospital and retired after twenty years of dedicated service. Using her nursing skills and love for people, Sandra spent many years volunteering at Sentara Care Complex in Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Davis LaVenture of Worchester, Massachusetts. She is survived by a sister, Denise Benson of Shrewbury, Massachusetts and many nieces, nephew sand cousins of the same area. Sandra leaves her husband, Don, daughters, Jill Watlington Drake, and Deborah Watlington Adkins, granddaughters, Jacqueline N.Covert of Hampton and Morgann R. Barlette of Huntsville, Alabama. Also, a grandson, Christopher Watlington Adkins of Hampton, great granddaughter, Brook Marie Bradley, great grandsons, Nicholas L. Bradley and James T. Bradley of Hampton .

A Celebration of life will be held on November 13, 2024 At 4:00 p.m. At Fox Hill Road Baptist Church, 335 Fox Hill Road Hampton VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fox Hill Road Baptist Church Building Fund.
