Shirley Hooper Greene

Born on July 13, 1926 in Oak Park, Illinois and raised in La Grange, she graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1944 and De Pauw University in 1948. She worked as a secretary at a Chicago insurance company, and then married in 1950. Shirley raised four children and was active in alumni groups, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and took several night school courses to further her education. In later years she pursued her love of travel by traveling most of the U. S., Europe, and Canada. She enjoyed writing and was a former member of the Tidewater Writers Association and was an active member of the Farmington Garden Club.

Shirley is survived by her husband Warren Greene and four children; Douglas Greene, Deborah Ballard, Gary Greene, and Kimberly Heslep, and two grandchildren; Christopher Ballard and Justin Heslep.

The family will be receiving friends at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 7, 2015 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with a memorial service celebrating her life to follow at 12:00 noon. A reception will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd, Suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606.
