

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna J. West. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen Gaus West; son, Thomas W. West Jr. (TW) and wife Allison; daughter, Jennifer West Shipe and husband Matthew; grandchildren, Emily, Thomas Russell, Sydney, and Chloe; father, Thomas J. West Jr., and many loving extended family members and friends.
He loved traveling with his wife, Helen, to see many different places. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in many different activities over the years.
Tom was a proud member of the United States Bowling Congress for the last 50+ years where he served a PBA member. During his time bowling, he had several 300 games and 800 sets to be proud of. He had the opportunity to participate and attend the USBC bowling tournament for over 35 years.
Tom was well known for Tom's Tackle, where he made custom fishing lures, flounder rigs, and tackle for fishermen on the east coast. He enjoyed life to his fullest and loved spending time together with his wife, children, and grandchildren boating and fishing.
The family will receive friends for a Visitation at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in the Visitation Rooms, located at 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666, on March 17, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666, US, on March 18, 2026, at 11:00 am. Service will be officiated by Celebrant Don Phelps.
