

Walter Lee Coverston Jr., the second son of Walter Lee Coverston, Sr. and Florence Brown was born March 6, 1926 in Manassas, VA. Raised in Manassas, he attended school and helped on the family dairy farm. Graduating from Osborne High School, he was drafted into the Army/Army Air Corps and was stationed in Panama towards the end of WWII. After the war, he attended Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, DC and got his Masters Degree in Accounting. Walter went to work for Trailways soon after graduating and met Doris Bicksler.
Walter and Doris married February 2, 1952 at Cherrydale United Methodist Church in Arlington, VA. They began their life together in Falls Church, VA becoming members of Graham Road United Methodist Church. Walter left Trailways and went to work for the District of Columbia as an accountant, retiring with 30+ years of service. Walter worked for Don's Sunoco in Falls Church, VA managing their payroll until he retired in 2016. Walter was an active member at church, serving on the property and finance committees for many years, as well as volunteering with the youth on their trips for the Appalachia Service Project during the summers. Walter is a Mason and longtime member of Macon Ware Lodge 64. Walter was an avid model train enthusiast with multiple trains and layouts as well as a Cub Master and Scoutmaster for his son's troop.
Preceding Walter in death was his wife: Doris Bicksler; his parents: Walter Lee Coverston, Sr. and Florence Brown; his brothers: Wayne and Boyd; his sisters: Nelda, Jean, and Betty; as well as his grandson: Jonathan Lee Coverston (1982). Walter is survived by his sons: Gary Lee Coverston (Dayna Moyer) of Hampton, VA, and Jeffrey Scott Coverston (Dorothy Howard) of Culpeper, VA; his daughter: Robin Jo Coverston McGill (Michael McGill) of Peterborough, NH; and his grandchildren: Christina Marie Coverston Groce of Hampton, VA, Danielle Nicole Coverston Burke (Lewis Burke) of Culpeper, VA, Eagle Scout Paul Thomas Coverston of Hampton, VA, and Kaitlyn Eve McGill of Peterborough, NH; and great-grandchildren: Haley McKenzie Groce of Hampton, VA, and Jenna Lynn Burke and Adalyn Rose Burke of Culpeper, VA.
