

William M. "Billy" Harrell, a long time resident of Hampton, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011. He was born in born in Norfolk, Virginia on July 5, 1928, and was the fourth child of Edward Jones and Esther Spear Harrell.
Billy attended Hampton public schools and was previously a member of the Hampton Elks Club. In 1988, he retired after 25 years of service with the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. He enjoyed photography, golf, and history.
Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward J. Harrell, Jr. and James S. Harrell. He is survived by his sister, Ann H. Russell of Newport News; brothers, Robert S. Harrell of Hampshire, UK and Jack S. Harrell of Hampton; nieces, Janice R. Wolford of Williamsburg, Stephanie H. Simpson of Mobile, AL; nephews, John Harrell of Lorton, VA, Stephen Harrell of Wexford, PA, James Harrell of Takoma Park, MD; and five nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Monday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Bert Rait officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hampton History Museum Association, Attn: Treasurer, P.O. Box 646, Hampton, Virginia 23669.
