

He was raised attending Calvary Baptist Church in Newport News. After graduation in 1975 from Hampton High School where he played trumpet in the band, he joined the U.S. Army band and retired after a twenty year career. After military service, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Arlington, VA.
Witmer was preceded in death by his mother and father, Elizabeth Silk Marshall and Witmer K. Marshall, Sr.; and step brother, John McQuade. He is survived by his wife, Luisa T. Marshall; brother, Stephen Marshall; sisters, Brenda Parson and Sheryl Ambrose; step-mother, Irene S. Schneider; step-brothers, Michael McQuade and Matthew McQuade; step-sister, Diane Slate; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 on Friday, December 6, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Witmer’s life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, December 7 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park with military honors.
