(Cont) A true friend. 
I met him for coffee at his favorite place (Denny’s) multiple times. After I found out that God loved me and changed my identity to something beautiful I wanted to share this with Steve. He was open to it but not completely sold yet. Then he softened. He would voluntarily talk about God. Even this last time when I visited him, his mind was cluttered by dementia, but he connected my face with something because he says, “I really want to start going to church”. It made my heart smile. His Heavenly Father hadn’t forgotten this boy of his. I truly believe Steve and I will be together once more on the other side. This is truly the only decision that matters in this ol’ life. I miss him. Until I see you again, my friend! I will try to love well, listen well, and never fall into a rut of victimhood, just as you lived your life.

What a beautiful and perfectly written tribute to such an amazing guy. Steve was truly one-of-a-kind. I met Steve through the suggestion of a mutual friend. The era in which I met him was the worst of my life. I was going through a horrific divorce from a psychopath and trying to keep it together for the sake of my kids. I find myself suddenly needing to move my horse as the field I kept her in was being sold. I was given directions to steve’s house by our mutual friend. I remember knocking on his door. Steve answered, listening carefully to my request of boarding her in his back pasture. He agreed to this request and declined my offering to pay him for this kindness. This was the beginning of a true friendship. Steve was a good listener. And so was I. I’ll never forget his belly-laugh provoking stories of neighborhood Great Danes, and crazy happenings during his time in the Navy, and racing stories, and mis-shifted trannys/engines dropped in races (not by him of course), pranks played on navy personnel and in food packaging plants. Of how slick he was at “borrowing” his dad’s car and therefore how he was always one step ahead of his girls when they would try it. He truly loved his kids and grandkids. He spoke often of each one. He also of the stories of his own childhood. He was the oldest child and was responsible for supervising his little siblings at church and other things. I saw some pain when listening ‘between the lines’, but Steve was never a victim. He never spoke with bitter vitriol - and he could have. I instantly connected with this giant of a man. Yes, he had his quirks!  I remember during conversation, that quick lick of his forefinger and then in the air it went. Always meant for emphasis but it became his trademark. And a little clicking sound he would randomly make with his tongue.  I loved Steve. He was my friend. He was one for offering wise advice. He also saw the trauma I was going through and was my sounding board. A true friend.  (Cont…)

Stephanie and family, I’m sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. He was a great man and it was such a honor to take care of him at the Veterans home! He most definitely did tell the best stories and he always had the biggest smile while reminiscing!

Steve was a huge part of my childhood memories at Grandma & Grandpa’s farm.  He would get out there and play softball with his younger cousins. He was always kind, always fun, and will always carry a special place in my heart.  He passed that kindness on to his children. ❤️.  His absence will be felt here in a big way, and certainly never forgotten. Love you Steve and family.

One memory I have of Steve is a picture we have of him in his Navy uniform.  Because I’m one of the youngest grandchildren Steve was 10 years order then me, I was and always have been so proud of that picture.  Steve was such an amazing person and I know our entire Yarbrough family will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My heart goes out to you all. You’re all in my prayers. Steve was much like my dad. If you met him you’d never forget him. My memories of him are all great ones. Mostly at birthday parties where he’d put on music and we’d dance and sing until we couldn’t anymore. He was always right there dancing and singing with us. Car rides where us girls would blast the music and sing and dance and he would just smile and laugh. He always had a dad joke to throw out or a witty come back to our smart mouths. I still use his line when my kids scoff at me. “Oh you have an air leak”.  What a great dad. My condolences to you. I love you and l am here for you all if you want to talk. I’ll never forget those memories.

I remember hanging out at Bob's Big Boy with Steve and Stan, drinking coffee, talking hot rods, racing, and draggin' the main. I remember his '67 GTO before he switched to Mopars, and we "horse traded" a lot of cars. Sure gonna miss that ol' boy...

Ohh dad💔 Heartbeoken is an understatement.....Remember when Andrew and I's families drove out to Missouri to surprise you?? You had no idea it was Andrew sitting across the table from you at Danny's as he was talking to you...it was hilarious and I still laugh about it. Thought for sure you'd realize it was Andrew once he asked if (your) peanut butter and bologna sandwiches were on the menu...you still didn't recognize him though😆 From 5 years old through high school, you never missed a game of mine and would be my catcher at home as I pitched. The countless weekends at the races track and in the pits. The bbq's and laughter at the track after hours was unbeatable 😆 The stuff you taught me about cars that I was able to pass down to Isaiah (grandson), including the love of racing. Isaiah wants to race and thinks about a '69 Dart or a '70 Cahallenger. You are so so missed but are in a much better place where there's no pain or suffering. I bet you and uncle Stan are cuttin' it up with the Man upstairs😆 We love you so much, dad. Thank you...for being you❤️

Cousin Steve will be greatly missed, if it wasn't for him i wouldn't have gotten in love with drag races and NASCAR racing.  And I beginning collecting melitabulia from cards down to cars. And I would be so excited to let him see the new ones I got, and he would be telling me everything about the story of the older cards I bought.  I will miss all his great stories and all the times he would have me laughing so hard I would be in just tears laughing.  Prayers to all the family and grandchildren and my you R.I.P COUSIN STEVE  But will never before forgotten.
