Debbie was born a fighter, coming into the world prematurely at 2.5 pounds. At 3 days old she was adopted and taken into a loving home by her mother Ida Mae and her father Jonah Taylor. At 5 years old, the family moved to Watts, Los Angeles, where she attended Manuel Arts Middle School and Jefferson High School, graduating with honors.
At 16 she met and married Thomas Logan in 1956 and they had their first son, Anthony in 1957, who was affectionately nicknamed Skipper by Ida Mae. Following the birth of Skipper, Deborah and Thomas welcomed their 2nd son Larry in 1958 and first daughter Chavonne in 1959. In 1961, Deborah and her family relocated to San Fernando Valley and established their roots in Pacoima, California where their family quickly got larger with the birth of Charlotte in 1962, Chrystal in 1963 and Dionne in 1965. Although Deborah and Thomas divorced in 1971, they remained best friends until his death in 2002.
Over the years, Deborah held many jobs in the nursing field as well as an accomplished tailor, learning her skills from her mother Ida. While working at the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital, Deborah met her second husband, Harrison Teamer and lived a very fulfilling life traveling and gardening. In her retirement, she relocated to Hanford, California, dedicating the remainder of her life helping raise all her grandchildren.
Deborah was known for her outgoing attitude, cooking, giving nature, and blunt approach. She also loved to travel with her cousin Mary, her summer vacations with the Scott family, playing cards, building puzzles, collecting plants, and holidays.
Deborah departed this life and joined her Lord and Savior on July 17th and had the pleasure of living to see 5 generations. Deborah was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ida and Jonah, her 1st husband Thomas Logan, her husband Harrison Teamer, her brothers Jonah Jr., Bill, and Charles, her sister Martha Rae, her son Larry Logan, her cousin/sister Mary Scott, and three grandchildren, Lamar, Ryan and baby Chavonne.
She leaves behind 5 children to celebrate her life: Anthony Logan, Chavonne (Frank) Smith, Charlotte (Kevin) Coulter, Chrystal Garcia and Dionne Logan. She was the grandmother to 40 grandchildren, 85 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, her Scott family and host of other family members.
"Big" Deborah was loved by many and was called Granny by all who knew her. With the most giving heart, she never met a stranger and made sure those around her always felt loved. She made a huge impact on her family and friends, especially her grandchildren whom she once told "When I'm gone, don't cry for Granny. Be happy that I am going home to be with God, and I won't be in pain".
