Eunice Edna Walker peacefully departed from this life, Sunday evening January 28, 2018, surrounded by family members. She was born in Hanford to Ray and Lorena Spafford on January 9, 1924. She was raised on her father’s ranch in the Lakeside district, attended Eucalyptus grammar school and Hanford High, graduating in 1941.
She married Delbert Walker on October 19, 1941. They moved in Riverside, Calif., where he at first attended art school, then worked in the aircraft industry at the onset of World War II. A son, Robert Eugene Walker was born in 1942. She became a homemaker as Delbert entered the draft and was sent to serve overseas as a member of the Army Air Corps. A daughter, Carolyn Lee Walker, was born in 1945.
They farmed after the war in the Lakeside area, and became early, and remained longtime members of Lakeside Community Church. A third son, John Ray Walker, was born in 1956.
They moved to Hanford, where after retiring from farming, Delbert worked for the county, then savings and loans, while Eunice worked for some time at Van Andels clothing store. They ventured into real estate development, including mobile home parks such as Magnolia Gardens in Lemoore.
In retirement, they traveled near and far in their little travel trailer and enjoyed their large family. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking for friends, family and church members. She was a longtime L.A. Dodgers fan, so trips to Dodgers Stadium were treasured.
At the time of Delbert’s passing in 2001, they had been married for 60 years - and never apart for a day - except when he was overseas during the war. With declining health she moved into the Hacienda Health Care in Hanford, where she lived for four years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Walker, her parents, her daughter, Carolyn Walker a brother, Elmer Spafford, sisters Alice Blakemore and Doris Harrison. She is survived by sons Robert Walker and John Walker, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lakeside Community Church, 16942 10th Ave, Hanford.
Family and Friends are invited to view Eunice’s legacy at www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com and write condolences.
