

On December 18, 2014, Geraldine (Jerry) Harriet (Mattox) Fischer died at the age of 88 in her home in Hanford, CA from debilitating Alzheimer’s and a heart attack. She was born in Visalia on July 17, 1926, to parents: Thomas Jefferson Mattox and Alma Lorraine Kame Mattox. She was a Charter Member of St. James Lutheran Church in Hanford and had served on the Church Counsel and as Treasurer. She graduated from Redwood High School in Visalia and 4C’s College in Fresno. As a bookkeeper for approx. 15 years, she worked for Five Star Ranch (previously known as Sherman Thomas Ranch) & Five Points Gin, in Five Points, CA. She had also volunteered as a classroom aid at Martin P. Gunderson Elementary School (Westside Elementary) in Five Points, CA. She was a member of Visalia Oaks Lions Club and Hanford Breakfast Lions.
She married Frederick Wilhelm Fischer who was born September 4, 1923 (deceased February 9, 2004) in Visalia, CA on June 11, 1944. As a family and in their retirement years she and her husband loved to travel. They traveled all over the US, Hawaii & Germany by plane, car and took cruise ships to Panama and Alaska. Her hobbies included creating stained glass panels and a passion for Genealogy. She traveled to several Libraries all over the US, including the Library of Congress, which were known for their extensive genealogy files to researching the Mattox and Fischer families.
She is survived by 2 daughter’s and 1 son: Kathy Newlen (H: Steven Newlen) of Fontana, CA; Claudia Wagner (H: Mike Wagner) of Colorado & Timothy B. Fischer, Sr. (W: Marsha Fischer) of Hanford, CA. She will also be missed by her grandchildren; Sean & Ian Wagner of Colorado, Timothy B. Fischer, Jr., Shanda M. Fischer (H: Carlos Hudgins) of Torrance, CA and Cassandra S. Fischer of Hanford, CA. She will also be cherished by her 9 great-grandchildren; Dixie Fischer, Blaine Fischer, Sydnee Fischer, Christian Fischer, Alazae Hudgins, Carlos Rahki Hudgins, Adrian Fischer and Alija Melendrez.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at People’s Funeral Chapel; 501 N. Douty Street, Hanford, CA 93230. A Private Graveside Service will be held. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church; 1780 Emma Lee Lane, Hanford, CA 93230.
