Born in 1932 in Adrian, Georgia, Jetta moved at age 8 with her family to Pensacola, Florida. She later earned her RN’s license, then met a dashing Navy pilot at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, where they were married in 1954. Jetta accompanied him to Texas, California, Rhode Island, Virginia and many other homes, often working as a nurse, both paid and volunteer. She moved so often that if we stayed somewhere more than a year it was time to rearrange the furniture.
Those who were blessed to cross her path can still smell a warm batch of cookies and hear her sewing machine stitching miles of seams in clothes for her kids, curtains for the house, crafts for church bazaars, and no end of other creative projects. She was never without a yarn needle or seam ripper.
Jetta loved children and continued teaching Sunday School and volunteering in local schools to read with kids who could use a little extra help, as well as being a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Besides her husband, RADM Glen Lenox (Ret), she leaves a sister, Charlene Padgett, in Florida; four children and their spouses, whom she loved like her own: Jennifer Shearer (Dan) in Maryland; Kelly Lenox (Chris Laskowski) in Oregon; Amy Medeiros (Adam) in Hanford, California, and Mark Lenox (Lynn) in Gardnerville, Nevada; eleven grandchildren and their loved ones, along with a twelfth who has been awaiting her in heaven; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends across the country.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, at First United Methodist Church (UMC), 505 N Redington St, Hanford, CA 93230. Burial will follow later in Pensacola, Florida. In lieu of flowers her family asks that gifts may be made to First UMC of Hanford, either by check or via their website [https://fumchanford.org/], or to Refuge Armona [https://www.refugearmona.org/ ].
