

Hanford Resident, John R. Haskin passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born March 8, 1930 in Sylvia, Kansas to Ode and Ellen Proctor Haskin. John’s uncle the Mayor at the time, he had the town flag raised to celebrate the birth of the first male child in the Haskin family to be born in thirty-five years. He moved to Reedley, California in 1943.
At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served in San Diego, CA, Jacksonville, FL, Memphis, TN, Kaneohe Bay, HI, Saipan, Sangley Point, PI, Yokosuka, Japan, El Toro Marine Base and retiring at NAS Lemoore in 1969. After retiring from the U.S. Navy he started his second career with Westinghouse Electric in Visalia, CA. He retired after 20 years in 1990. During his time in Alameda, he met and married Juanita Burkhart. John loved camping, fishing, hunting and RV’n with family and friends. He enjoyed activities that included his family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters; Sharon James and Pamela Johnson both of Hanford and his son-in-law; Richard Holland of Hanford. John also leaves behind his sisters; Virginia Mattox of Reedley and Betty Mattox (Gilbert) of Pasco, WA. He is still remembered by an uncle; Ray Proctor of Kansas. He will be greatly missed by all his grandchildren; Jon James, Jodi Lopez (Theron Fasick), Conrad Holland (Jamie), and Gerald Holland of Hanford, Michael Johnson and Michele Johnson of Visalia, Ricky Holland and Thomas Holland (Sarah) of Fresno. His precious great-grandchildren will always cherish him; Saige Lopez and Mikayla Contreras of Hanford and Samantha Holland of Fresno. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; Ode and Ellen Haskin, wife; Juanita Haskin, daughter; Sheila Holland and son-in-law; David James and his brother-in-law; Denzil Mattox.
Friends and Family are invited to a Visitation on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and a Funeral Service on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. all at People’s Funeral Chapel; 501 N. Douty Street, Hanford, CA 93230 559-584-5591 with a Burial to follow at Grangeville Cemetery; 10428 14th Avenue, Armona, CA 93202 559-924-3439 with Full U.S. Navy Active Duty Military Funeral Honors.
