What can we say about our dearly departed Mom, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother & Great-Great-Grandmother. Yes, she went that far with family members. Yet in the midst of it all, she was a kind hearted friend to everyone that she encountered in her life. She Was Not Only a dedicated & loyal person to many but, she always put others before herself in general. She was committed to working hard. What we mean by that, is that she devoted her life to helping others no matter who they were, whether they were family or anyone else, she was always there for them.
Luz Ojinaga was born on January 13, 1921 in Pecos, Texas. Her parents were Octaviano & Fermina Flores. She had an early childhood of not finishing school past the 5th grade. She soon ended leaving school to help care for a family member. Since then she grew up working many jobs such as; cleaning homes, caring for other family members with their needs due to health but, she will always be known for her longest job of working at a meat packaging plant here in Southern California.
She lived in Pecos until she married Tony Ojinaga. Soon after that they decided to move to Los Angeles, California. There they set their roots of a newly married couple in Pico Rivera on Reichling Ave. Shortly after moving she found her job at the meat packing business where she retired after 30 years of service. She grew up with 6 other siblings starting with herself as the oldest then came along the others in after her with Jesus, Maria, Amado, Gloria, Gerri and then Joe. Tony & Luz were blessed with 4 children; Aurora, Tony, Mary & Albert. She was especially delighted and she dearly cherished her 13 Grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren & 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Although not formerly well educated, she always provided for her family by the example of others around her who had taught her life lessons. Her way of life was basically Common Sense for everything. While life for her had many ups & downs she still remained hopeful and faithful to everyone, especially to her loving husband. She was very loyal in her marriage through her faith in God. She religiously attended church & instilled that within her children. Her legacy lives on through her children and extended family members with her love of God.
Tony & Luz decided that after her retirement they wanted a change of life so they decided to move to Hanford, California in the late 80's. They settled in this small but, quaint town until her passing. She was always enjoyed her life in her new home. After her husband passed away she decided to stay there with the help of her family nearby. For the past 15 years she got around in her trusty wheelchair. That wheelchair did not hold her back from doing the things she enjoyed most in her kitchen “cooking”. She liked making many things; from enchiladas, beans, rice, chile plus many other Mexican dishes. She is most remembered by all for her homemade tortillas which everyone loved. She has cooked all her life until the last 2-3 years it’s been difficult for her which she eventually had to stop.
She had a few things she loved; she has always been partial to loving purple/lavender, elephants, roses, & embroidery. She treasured caring for her lemon tree in the backyard of which she was very protective of and no matter whom you were, you were not allowed to touch her tree unless you asked her for permission!!!
Again what can we say about this wonderful lady Luz Ojinaga, that we all cherished & loved our entire life, easy - she was the most loving, caring and dedicated person we will ever know & love.
