
Papa

If I could pick two words to sum you up it would be "consistent and faithful". You were faithful to your family, your church and your friends. Your lawn was always manicured and your flower beds cared for, but it wasn't just your lawn that was cared for. If a neighbor or friend was out-of-town or sick, you took care of their lawn and they never had to wonder if it would get done. 

You were faithful to family time and placed a high value on eating together as a family and spending time together on the weekends and in the evenings. I remember you grilling burgers for all of us while we played in the yard when we went to visit. I remember summer time when we would visit from MI and go on bike rides and walks with you and Grandma around the neighborhood; you always found some sort of little "treasure" when we went. I remember playing baseball in the front yard with you and you taking us to Walmart on Sundays to look around. I remember sitting next to you in your big lazy boy chair; you always had some sort of candy in a bowl next to you and would give us a piece. And you were always a good sport when we played jokes on you. I remember hiding with my sister, Adriana and my cousin, Donja when you and Grandma would come visit us in MI and jumping out to startle you. You always yelled like you were surprised, but maybe you were just playing along to let us have fun.  I also remember going to the coast with you. You always wore your 49ers cap and your aviator sunglasses. You would walk around all the shops with us as we looked around and never complained about how long it took. 

You were also committed to your church. I can't think of a Sunday that we were in Hanford that we didn't go to church with you and Grandma. After church we often times went to have coffee and dessert at a friends house.  You loved fellowshipping with close friends. 

I am looking forward to the day when we will be reunited with you in Heaven.

Bert, is my Father-in-law, I am his Son-in-law. That in itself says a lot and can conjure up many of thoughts for those of you who are Father-in-law's and Son-in-law's. For me it is endearing. 
Bert is a family man and held that in high regard; God, Wife, Children, Vocation, Church/Friends, and the rest of life was his priorities. Bert had it right! That is how the bible teaches priorities. He helped me learn that. I was new in my faith (John 1:12-13 / John 3:16 / 1st John 5:11-13) Bert was right there to encourage me to grow by helping attend church, Sunday School, and bible studies. From day one, dating his youngest daughter, I had the pleasure of seeing a family structure different from the one I was raised in. As we got know each other he trusted me enough to give me permission to marry his daughter Gail. 
That is the greatest gift he gave me, the hand of his daughter. You know the saying “Children are a reflection of their parents”…… Gail reflects Bert in honesty, faithfulness, trustfulness, deep thinker, quality friend, athletic, witty, good with finances, right priorities,…. I think you get the idea. When children came Bert was as proud of a grandparent as there could be. He really enjoyed them near and far. Bert allowed me to become part of his family and with that all that goes with a family; Fun, laughs, serious times, tears and challenges, I grew as a man, Bert allowed that.  
Bert also discovered I was “handy” and allowed me to help take care of things around his home while we lived in California and then in Michigan (I don't think he ever got over us moving; back to how important family is) he and I always had “projects” to do. He really enjoyed the runs to OHS (Orchard Hardware and Supply) to see friends who worked there, have “man time”  and get a few things to fix what needed fixed.  Bert was a outdoors guy and loved farming. His yard was a “little farm” for him. There Bert taught me how to prune trees, he skillfully demonstrated where to prune to get the most fruit or what would make the tree look best. Many other projects we did together; fond memories that I use and pass on today. 
Bert is my Father-in-law and he fulfilled that part of his life and my life well. In the life to come the relationship is different (John 14) but I know we will recall our earthly relationship with joy and peace that only our Heavenly Father can create. Thanks Bert for being my Father-in-law, the only one I will ever have.

In honor of Mr. Bert Boogaard.  This is a man whom myself and Theresa wished we have known for more years than we have.  Mr. Boogaard was a true man of the Lord, family and friends.  Myself as well as Theresa will miss him dearly. A man who could teach you if you wanted to learn!  A historian of true leadership.  As a younger man, Mr. Boogaard is truly a man that I would want to be.  My Theresa says when we get to heaven, we'll be sure to have him some fresh baked cookies.  We miss you Mr. Boogaard but you will never be forgotten.  Thank you for being there just to have someone to talk to. A father, friend, and husband of true grit.  God bless and we'll see you in Heaven.  Make sure you tell our Lord that we were blessed with you and your family in our lives!  Ralph and Theresa  :)

Hi Grandpa, 

How is heaven? I am so thankful you are there, pain free, enjoying life the way God first intended us to. Although I'm your grandchild, in your later years, I feel like we had much we could relate to each other on about the frustrations of having bodies that just don't work right!:) I know you were growing weary of yours, and quite frankly, I'm envious that you are finally free of the hassle of yours. I look forward to that day when our entire family is with the Lord and enjoying his presence without being hassled with pain and sickness. I'm speaking to about 500 women tomorrow about how to find Hope in the midst of chronic pain and you are living the fulfillment of that hope today. When I was in CA for your funeral, I took a stroll through your backyard for old time's sake. I always loved your back yard; the snapdragons and fruit trees were my favorite. As I was walking through the yard, it saddened me to see the trees, no longer yielding fruit, because you haven't been able to care for them in quite some time. Then I spotted one orange. It had fallen to the ground and rolled under the tree. Next to it was one of Miss T's paw prints. That is the image that I will hold in my mind until I see you again in heaven. Your body is no longer yielding fruit in an earthly sense, but the print of Christ that you left behind affects generations in our family that are and are still to come. I love you and miss you.

Papa- I miss you so much, I wish I would have been able to see you one last time before you went to be with the Lord. After your funeral I was able to visit the house and sit in your chair. As I sat there I was overwhelmed with memories from my childhood and reminded of what an integral role you played in my life. From chasing toad's around the yard, going to cut Auntie Cindy's grass, riding in your pick-up truck, going to the beach and playing in the backyard every memory I had was accompanied by how you taught me honesty and fairness. You loved your family and provided for them daily. You always were concerned about others well being. In the Bible it states "love your neighbor as yourself" and your life was one in which this was taken very seriously. I love you and miss you. I look forward to hanging out with you again in heaven. I love you Papa.

Bert,  I miss our daily conversations and playful banter.  I know in my heart, you knew I needed you in my life as much as you needed me.  You are a proud and gracious man with an unconditionally loving heart.  Your words of wisdom and spirituality have enlightened my heart and life!  You are missed!

Hi Dad,  I know I have not lived with you or by you for many years.  I am thankful for the many visits we could share with either you and Mom coming here to MI or our family coming to CA.  The longest visit we had there in CA was five weeks and the longest visit you had here in MI was three weeks.  We have lots of photos of all the places we went together here in MI and the events we shared in CA.  A family favorite was going to the coast together whether it was renting a house or hotel.  Tim and I have very fond memories of all of us going to Denny's for breakfast in Morrow Bay.  I miss calling you each week.  Sometimes I called as many as seven times a week, especially if you were not well.  I want you to know the Tiger's are doing great!  :}  On that note I am grateful that I share your love for sports.  It is amazing to me how certain traits and interests get passed on down to our children.  Anyway, I am grateful I live in an area that has professional baseball, basketball, football and hockey.  We have enjoyed it all.  I am also happy that I share your love for animals.  We always had a dog and cat growing up and I still have a wonderful dog and cat.  You taught me that when you have a pet, you care for your pet and you enjoy your pet.  I am glad that up to this date you have known each of our pets.  Then, I never ever would have guessed that I would share your love for gardening.  I really love being outside in nice weather and I love planting, deadheading and watering our flowers.  I also appreciate how faithful you were with taking care of your home, cars, ect.  You always took care of the things that needed to be fixed and cleaned.  

Most of all, I am deeply grateful for your faithfulness in taking me to church, reading devotions at the table and allowing me to attend Mount Hermon.  You took your commitment to raise me to know God very seriously.  Even when we were on vacation we went to church.  From that discipline I have come to know that God is my heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally.  Jeremiah 31:3 is one of my very favorite verses.  It says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness."  My relationship with my heavenly Father is the most important relationship I have.  Thank you for providing me the opportunities to grow in this relationship. I now have the opportunity to share God's love and His involvement  in the lives of our children, grandchildren, neighbors and others.  

I love you a lot and I take great comfort in the knowledge that someday we will be together again, this time in a perfect relationship and in a perfect world.  We will catch up again then. :}

Grandpa,
It is still so hard to imagaine that you are no longer here on the earth with us, that you are not sitting in your chair in your house.  You aren't watching the Lunch time news or the Evening news, or even having your usual Coffee Time breaks.  You aren't sitting in your lawn chair, right outside your garage door, or enjoying your Cat's sitting on your lap.  No, Grandpa you aren't enjoying any of these earthly Joy's.  Instead you are in Heaven rejoicing & enjoying every bit of it.  I can only imagine the smile upon your face, when the Lord said to You, "Well done my good and faithful servant."  Grandpa, you were a good Christian example to many, and I (your 1st Grandchild) was one of those previlaged to receive from your example.
Now that you are gone, I am SO Thankful for the many memories that I do have of you & with you.
-When I was little I would stay the night & I would beg you to chase me around the house with that stuffed animal snake. Faithfully you would do it, and while chasing me you would make a hissing sound.
-Riding in the back of your Red pickup
-Dinner on Saturday night to a favorite Mexican resturant
-Your Red Roses growing on the back fence, I can still remember their scent.
-Your "Friday Lawn Day" your yard always looked amazing
-June 20 the day Rodney & I got married, we weren't sure if You would make it. You had just had open heart surgery, but you were home in time to be there. We were delighted to have our Grandpa join us.
-Growing up knowing that Church was important, & going to church every Sunday with You & Grandma
-When Rodney & I decided it was in God's plan for us to move to Indiana. You supported us, but it was also a sad time as well
-I LOVED calling you from Indiana, it always SO fun to talk, especially about our Weather. Then after our talk, we would end with an I Love You.
Grandpa, Thank-You SO much for your constant Love, Support & Christian Guidence.  I Miss You SO much & look forward to the day when we will meet again!

Dear Boogaard Family, I will miss late night baking and Bert's surprise in the morning to find fresh goodies on the counter.  He sure had a sweet tooth and enjoyed his homemade goodies.

His strong faith was a beautiful inspiration and loving legacy not only left to his immediate family but to his extended family and friends as well.  He was very caring and always remembered things that I shared with him about my children, grandchildren, and family.  He always followed up with me to ask if everyone was well.  

Bert, Patches and Miss T are missing you but adjusting well and doing fine.  Patches and I are getting along fine....teehee haha!  Your Sweet Norma is being well cared for and doing well.  

I pray that Cindy, Gail, John & Bev and their families, extended family and all of Bert's friends, and Jami, Dori, Theresa and I find the peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit on the difficult days ahead.

Hi Grandpa - I miss you so much. I have good memories of our times together.  You and grandma took me on my first train ride and it was so much fun.  I liked having early out Weds. from school because you and I or you, grandma & I would go to the donut shop in the afternoon for your coffee break.  I really miss that.  We just had the Forth of July fireworks and I miss not being able to tell you about them.  Mom and I are going to the coast for vacation and I remember you always would say, have a good time Danae and here is some spending money. It was fun to come home and show you what I bought with your money.  I will miss that this year papa.  I will miss watching you watch the 49ners and the Giants.  The Giants are doing good right now.  I know you are happy about that.  I saw your shadow right after you died papa and it scared me but after I talked to my mom, I was happy that I saw you.  Thank you for being my papa.  I love you, Danae

Hi Grandpa - I miss you so much. I wish you were here.  I wanted to tell you about the fireworks this year and could not.  My throat is feeling bad right now and I know that you would be asking me every night how I was doing.
Grandpa, mom and I are going to the coast for vacation and I will miss telling you goodbye and you telling me to have fun.  You always gave me money to spend, thank you.
Grandpa, we had fun times together.  You took me on my first train ride, that was a lot of fun with you and grandma.  I just told mom that I liked the early out from school every Wed. because you and I or you, grandma and I would go to the donut shop for your afternoon coffee break.  That was really fun.  I miss going with you and grandma every Sat. night to a restaurant to eat and then to a store afterwards.
Grandpa I saw your shadow right after you died and it scared me and I told mom and after I talked to her, I was happy that I saw you.
Grandpa, I know you are in heaven.  Mom said that you are picking peaches!

Hi Dad, it has been almost 2 months since you left our family, (May 16).  I Miss you every day. Every night when I would go to your house to help you get ready for bed, I saw how worn out and tired you were.  I knew that you were probably ready to leave this earth. Mom was well taken care of and you knew I had everything in order so why not leave. I keep going over in my mind, the night you did leave. You were in bed and I asked you what you wanted for our Sat. night "fast food" dinner and you said that it didn't matter to you, so go get want I wanted.  I told you and mom good night and I love you and went home.  3 hours later, dad, you left us. It was quite a shock but I understood that after 85 years of loving God and helping your family and others, it was time to go to heaven.  I knew you would not be stressed or tired any longer.  I know that you are now helping our Heavenly Father.  
I have so many wonderful memories together.  You are the one that taught me to drive and even with a stick shift on the column.  I would run and wait for you down the road, coming home from work, I hopped in the truck and drove back to the house. You and I would go hunting for jack rabbits at dusk during the summer months. What ever season it was, we were outside playing that particular sport, except football, that wasn't my thing. You taught me how to care for my yard and how to care for my car.  I remember the 1st time I went to church at night with you.  I was finally old enough to stay up a little longer so you and I would go to night church besides the morning church.  I felt like a grown-up.  You understood me when I was growing up and your discipline was handled accordingly. 
Dad you loved our family and supported us in every way possible. I loved seeing you leave in the morning for work and give mom a kiss goodbye and then when you got home, you gave her a kiss again.
You were a great grandpa and Donja and Danae have so many wonderful memories of you and them.
You gave me my spiritual beliefs from the time I was born to the time I left your nest. I thank you for that.
Dad, I could write a book about my memories of you but why do that, you know them just as well.
Dad, thank you for you and for allowing me to visit with you a little, right now. 
I love you so much and am excited to see you again some day.

PS:  Mom is doing great.  She is eating, happy, smiling and talking.  She misses you too dad but knows that you are doing great now and that makes her happy.  I LOVE YOU

Cindy, Gail, Norma and family, We have so many fond memories with Bert.  Hank and Bert were best friends growing up together.  They would go hunting on Saturday afternoon for squirrels, jack rabbits and gophers on the West side.  Lemoore High School would give shells for each tail or ears brought in to lower the population.  Bert rode his bike to Hank's house, then they rode to Hardwick Grammar School together. Through the years we stayed close and always got together to celebrate our birthdays.  Hank is six months older.  We will miss celebrating Bert's birthday in October, but will be together in heaven with our wonderful Savior Jesus someday.

You probably don't know this but your Dad had quite and influence on me. When we were young and visiting the ranch, you and I would play during the day, but in the evening your Dad and I would talk like father and son. He would ask deep questions about my faith and what I wanted to do with my life. That always impressed me that someone would take such an interest in a wild kid like me. Later on after I was married I would visit your Mom and Dad when I would go to town and visit my folks. Your Dad knew I wasn't going to church at the time, so he asked me why not. He told me how much it hurt my parents by me not attending church and that he could not imagine not going to church every Sunday. It was like going to the gas station and getting his Soul refilled every week. I will "never" forget that as long as I live.
The Paster said during the service that "Bert has died". I don't think he has died, I know he is alive in me as well as you and many other people as well.

We have so many wonderful memories of your Mom & Dad caring for Colleen.  We were blessed beyond words to have her in a loving Christian home during her formative years.  Your family will always hold a very special place in our hearts and we will always be so thankful for the tender loving care they provided.  We are truly sorry for your loss and hope you find peace in the amazing legacy your father has left for generations to come.  Hello Cindy,Gail, Norma and Family, My favorite memory of Bert is a long time ago. We were going to Santa Cruse for Thanksgiving (about 1980) and we were with Aunt Kay and Uncle Will and David. We had dinner at a resturant that really didn't do Thanksgiving. Bert stated, "What no turkey and dressing, well we will just have to have another Thanksgiving when we get home." I remember we all thought it wasn't the same eather.
Sorry for your loss. Bert was a great man and always treated me with respect.

I am very sorry for your loss and I pray that God will comfort and bless each of you.  While I have no doubt that Uncle Bert is in a much better place now.  I will miss him very much. He was one of very few people,  for whom I had true respect.  Uncle Bert was a big influence in my life and I am a much better person as a result. I will keep these memories in my heart for the rest of my life. I am only sorry that I did not make the time to visit him more often, so many opportunities missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with each you.

Thank you, Bert, for all those years you mowed my lawn for free. As a widow with two young children and not much money, you were a hero. I remember the time you had a medical incident and I didn't think you'd ever mow my lawn again. Then one morning, I was having a cup of coffee and I heard your lawn mower revving up. I ran to the door and sure enough it was you. My heart leapt for joy to see you in action again. I wish I could hear that sound again. You have blessed my life and I know you will continue to shower down blessings from heaven.

Dear Norma, Cindy and Gail and families:  I pray our Heavenly Father gives you the necessary strength as you continue this journey here on earth without your husband/father/grandfather.  Our families were neighbors for 15 years and I can honestly tell you Bert was one of the best.
