Pauline Evelyn Machado

Pauline (Polly) Evelyn Machado of Arroyo Grande passed away on April 25, 2025 at her home surrounded by her children. She was 97 years young. Pauline was born in Lemoore California on April 4, 1928 to Palmyra A Mendes and Jose F Mendes. She grew up on the family dairy, originally located on Hanford-Armona Road west of Highway 41. The Mendes dairy was later relocated to 17th Avenue. Polly, along with her siblings, hand milked their cows and performed never-ending chores that came with living on a family dairy. Polly attended Lemoore High school.

On April 27, 1946 Pauline married Manuel M. Ferreira. She continued her busy, hardworking life on the Ferreira family dairy located on 16 1/2 Avenue and Colony Road. Between October 1947 and May 1960, they welcomed four sons and two daughters.

On August 27, 1964 Pauline was married to her second husband, Adlein "Led" Machado. They lived in Lemoore and Hanford as well as coastal towns including Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, Buellton and Santa Maria. While married to Led she worked several jobs, including managing a family entertainment center and deli; managing a motel; waitressing; housecleaning and home health care. Pauline and Led were married for 28 years before he passed away.

She loved life and lived it to the fullest. A favorite memory included traveling with her parents and her sister, Rose, to visit the family home and several relatives on the Azore Island of Terceira.

Pauline leaves behind:

Six children Leslie (Cathy) Ferreira of San Luis Obispo; Steve (Bernie) Ferreira of Lemoore; Larry (Patti) Ferreira of Cloverdale, Oregon; Johnny Ferreira of Arroyo Grande; Charlene (Frank) Ramirez of Kerman; and Valarie (Cullen) Cooper of Hanford.

Fifteen grandchildren: Tammy (Joey) Herzog; Wendy (Tony) Seres; Tory Boersma, Lisa (Jeff) Babb; Steve Jr. (Erin) Ferreira; Traci (John) Cowdrey; Travis Ferreira; Tyler (Ahrong) Ferreira; Roudy (Deana) Lawrence; Cinnamon Howell; Brooke (Dustin) Wyntjes; Jared (Carly) Cooper; Hazel, Nicole and Chrystal Tunnell.

Thirty-three great-grandchildren: Marcus, Rhett and Drew Herzog; Clara and Charlotte Seres; Emmet and Tyler Boersma; Bella Trenado; Kayla Black; Karly Babb; Megan and Hailey Ferreira; Macy and Gavin Wilson; Aaden Ferreira; Stetson and Cody Lawrence; Seth Copeland; Houston, Dalton and Braden Howell; Abigail, William, Madelyn, Jack, David and Olivia Wyntjes; Bailey, Cody, Casen and Elliot Cooper, June Smith and Kylee Bagley.

Eleven great-great Grandchildren: Brody, Everly & Arlis Howell; Ryder and Drake Cottrell; Blake, Dean, Elliot, Levi and Leighton Lawrence; Levi Black.

Siblings: Clarence (Sharon) Mendes; Johnny (Barbara) Mendes; Delores Enos.

Preceding her in death were: brother Jose Jr. Mendes (Carry), sister Mary Rose Ellis (Warren), and brother-in-law Manuel Enos.

A Funeral Mass for Pauline will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 12:00 PM at St. Peter Prince of Apostles Catholic Church (870 N Lemoore Ave, Lemoore, California 93245) with the reception to follow after.
