Virginia was born on March 5, 1923 in Hanford to John and Marie Fisher. She graduated from Hanford High School in 1940.
As a young farm girl Virginia spent time riding her horse “Nancy Lee” and could be seen riding in Hanford’s homecoming parades. At the age of eight Virginia began traveling in the family’s Model T-Ford to the beach house in Cayucos then, a two day trip. As the family tradition continued through the years, Virginia watched her grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoying the same beach as she did.
Virginia met her husband to be, Harold on a 4-H hay ride in high school. Harold and Virginia married November 14, 1942 and raised two sons Douglas Congdon who passed in 1972 and Dick Congdon of Hanford. While raising her family, Virginia devoted 34 years of dedicated service to AAA of Hanford working her way to office supervisor.
Virginia’s greatest achievement in her life was the care giving she lovingly gave to elder family members who went before her.
Virginia steadfastly and lovingly cared for Harold through a long term illness that finally took him. They were blessed with 45 wonderful years together.
Virginia remained very active in Soroptimist Club with life time membership, serving numerous officer positions. One of her passions was bowling, joining leagues and becoming an outstanding bowler well into her eighties. She was proud to become a Red Hat Society girl meeting wonderful new friends in later years of her life.
December 30, 1991 Virginia married Gene Robertson. Together the two enjoyed many years of travel on ocean cruises around the world. Gene and Virginia had 17 wonderful years together until Gene’s passing in 2008.
Virginia is survived by her son Dick Congdon & wife Jeana of Hanford, Granddaughter Kristen DeLand and husband Ric of Oregon, grandson-in-law Jerry Isenberg of Hanford, Great-Grandchildren Hailey Gorman, Malia Gorman, Marti Isenberg and Chloe Isenberg, brother Bob Fisher of Hanford, sister-in-law Joy Congdon of Sacramento and nieces Debbie Lupien, Lisa Lucas, Laurie Carver and Cindy Schmidt.
