A beloved mother of 5 children and 6 stepchildren.
Virginia was born to Florence B. Smith and Theodore (Pappy) W. Reed on November 14, 1929 in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma.
She was throughout her life one that hungered for knowledge. The toe headed, liquid blue eyed “Ginny” excelled academically and advanced through her early education graduating at the top of her class at Gentry High School by the age of 16.
Being a child of the “Great Depression” and World War II, her personality was forged into one with Hope and determination. Her drive to complete High School early was to personally join the War Effort for her fellow Americans and alleviate suffering of others.
Virginia has been a long time resident of the Hanford/Armona area of Kings County, California since 1977.
During her long, first marriage to Warren James Wooten (deceased) they had 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 37 Great-Grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Virginia “Ginny” was preceded in death by her spouses, oldest daughter Crystal Sue (Wooten, Thomas) Tuchell, granddaughter Jennifer Bond and great-granddaughter Amber Thomas.
Ginny was the youngest of three children. Her parents both were buried at Rifle Colorado Cemetery, Rifle, Garfield Co., Colorado. Her only sister Mary Ruth (Reed) Dix also is was buried at Garfield County Cemetery, Garfield Co., Colorado.
Her Brother George Dayton Reed also predeceased her and was buried at Pierce City Cemetery, Lawrence Co., Missouri.
Ginny loved her first few years of life living on Second Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma at their large home near all the city conveniences. She enjoyed dancing, visiting the library and traveling in her mind as she read book after book. The Theatre was near her home and she treasured spending her Saturdays there with friends and family.
Her father “Pappy” Reed was an accountant/book keeper and bought and sold farms in the Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas area.
The Reed family relocated to Gentry, Arkansas when Ginny was 9 years old. It was a large Poultry and Dairy farm for the time. They specialized in “Black Jersey” milk cows and chicken “fryers”.
By her graduation the industrious young Virginia Reed had amassed her own heard of milk cows and had planned to attend nursing school, becoming a dairy woman and nurse. Like many women of the post war period her plans changed with her marriage. She and her married family would move many times through the years from Arkansas to Oregon/Washington and many of the states in between.
Three of her five children were born in Southerlin, Douglas Co., Oregon while her husband worked in the logging industry. The 5th child, Robert was born back in Siloam Springs, Arkansas when her young family and husband were struggling to farm. The Oldest Child, Crystal Sue was born in Pampa, Grays Co., Texas when Warren Wooten was learning the housing building trade from Ginny’s Uncle Spoonemore.
Warren and Virginia would have several small business ventures from farming, Dairy, Poultry, Horse Logging Company to a very successful Farmers Insurance Agency in Spokane, Washington.
Warren and Virginia after all their children left home moved to the Valley and Warren, a licensed General Contractor, worked in the Kings County Area for a number of years. They built their own home and for years it was the gathering place for many family events & reunions or safe haven to just come visit.
Virginia was born with a condition known as PKD or “Polycystic Kidney Disease”. This disease was diagnosed in 1976 with her likely life expectancy of a few months to a year. Ginny was a fighter as all who know her would attest to. The last 7 years, 3 times a week would find Ginny on 8th street at DaVita’s Dialysis having her blood cleaned. Sadly her body just could not fight this condition any longer.
She was born on a Thursday and died on a Sunday. Peaceful in mind, body and spirit in the company of her pastor, friends and family knowing she was going to “Happy Land” secure in the love of her Savior Jesus Christ. On Sunday, May 26, 2013.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at People’s Funeral Chapel; 501 N. Duty Street, Hanford, CA 93230 559-584-5591 with a Graveside Service on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Grangeville Cemetery; 10428 14th Avenue, Armona, CA 93202 559-924-3439.
