

Eleanor B. Goulding Vargus, 89 of Rockland passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston. The daughter of the late Andrew "Buck" and Julia M. Twohig Goulding, she was born in Boston on September 23, 1923. Eleanor was raised and educated in West Roxbury and attended Secretarial School in Boston. She retired as an Executive Assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston. She volunteered for many organizations including Governor King's Drug Prevention Committee, the Visiting Nurse Association, the Pine Street Inn and the Mothers Club at Holy Family School. Eleanor and her late husband were active in politics, held fundraising events at their home, and were both active in the Holy Family Church in Rockland. Eleanor loved composing music, especially for her children's weddings, but her greatest joy in life was her family. Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late Philip T. Vargus to whom she was married for 54 years. She was the loving mother of Mary Beth Sarkissian and her husband Leo of Walpole, Julie Fisher and her husband Paul of Needham, Peter Vargus and his wife Karen of Danville CA, and Paul Vargus and his wife Ruthanne of East Bridgewater. She was the cherished grandmother of 8. Eleanor is also survived by her beloved brother-in-law Ralph Young of West Roxbury and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary C. Wallace, Andrew "Buck" Goulding, Pauline Young and David Goulding. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water St in Rockland on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St in Rockland. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery.
