John J. Cotter

John was born in Somerville, MA to the late Edward and June (Daly) Cotter on June 2, 1953. 

Beloved husband of Mary Ann (Mulkern) Cotter. He was the loving father of John and his wife Kate of Scituate, Patrick of Rockland, Meaghan and her husband Bob of Weymouth and Christine and her husband Ethan of Weymouth. He was predeceased in death by his infant daughter Mary Caitlin. John leaves behind eight grandchildren, Jack, Logan, Finn, Patrick, Lucas, Olivia, Rory and Delia. Brother of Kevin L. Cotter and his late wife Elizabeth of Quincy, the late Edward J. "Ted" Cotter and his surviving wife Nancy of Weymouth, the late William F. “Bill” Cotter and his surviving wife Eileen of Dorchester, and June M. (Cotter) Lanctot and her husband Peter of Foxboro. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate and remember John’s life by gathering for visiting hours at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte. 53, Hanover on August 21, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Apostles - St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan St., Rte. 14 in Hanson, MA on August 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.

John was a proud member of the Local 12 Plumber & Gasfitter Union for 40 years as well as Local 589 Boston Carmen’s Union. He was very active in youth sports in Pembroke where he lived for 39 years, serving as a coach for various teams and active member of the community. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Pembroke Youth Hockey, PO Box 1022 Pembroke, MA 02359. 

If you asked John what brought him the most joy in his life, he would say, without missing a beat, that it was his family. His pride and happiness came from his loving marriage of nearly 48 years to Mary Ann, their four wonderful children and 8 grandchildren who lovingly called him “Daideo.” 

John was the embodiment of love and laughter to all, and his marvelous legacy will remain in our hearts.
