

Mr. Leonard M. Collins, 66, of Halifax died Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. The son of the late Raymond C. and Estelle Kleppess Collins, he was born in Boston on May 25, 1937. He was raised and educated in Boston and lived in Chelsea before moving to Halifax lit 1966. Mr. Collins served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a Disabled Veteran. He was employed as a Police Officer for the Town of Bridgewater until his retirement in 1979. He was later a self employed Carpenter. Mr. Collins was a Graduate of Massasoit College in Brockton with an Associates Degree in Police Science. He was a Member of the Mass Police Association, a Member of the Bridgewater Police Association, a Life Member of the Whitman VFW, the Service Officer for the Halifax American Legion and was the Captain of the Percon Bowling Team in Kingston. He was active in Halifax Town Government having formerly served as a Member of the Board of Selectmen, a Member of the Board of Assessors and was the former Veterans Agent for the town. He is survived by his Wife, Julia T. Irwin Collins, 1 Son, Raymond E. Collins of Plymouth, 2 Daughters, Catherine L. Rantala of Abington and Carolyn D. Lydon of Halifax, 3 Sisters, Carol Moran of Derry NH, Diane Mattello of Stanford ME and Christine Genaco of Revere, 9 Grandchildren and Many Nieces and Nephews. He was the Brother of the late Ralph B. Collins. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 580 Monponsett Street, Rte 58 in Halifax Monponsett. Interment will be in Central Cemetery in Halifax. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan Street at the Corner of Rte 14 & 58 in HANSON on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
