

Marshall W. Barnes, of Hanover (formerly of Lydon, VT) passed away peacefully at home on July 26, 2015 at the age of 88. Born In New Haven, CT on August 23, 1926, the son of Stanley H. and Dorothy Puddicombe Barnes, Marshall spent his early years in Larchmont, NY and graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1943. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1954, Marshall graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and married his college sweetheart, Bettejane (BJ) Daniell. While raising their family in Wilton, CT Marshall worked as a Project Architect for Sherwood, Mills, & Smith in Stamford, and Valus & Carpenter Associates in Westport. Marshall volunteered in the Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Scout Master for many years. Marshall, who had a love of the water, sailing, and fishing, enjoyed most of his retirement years on Cape Cod. He also enjoyed ice skating, hockey, model sail boat racing, flower gardening, and his dogs. As an active member of the Anglican Church of the Resurrection, he shared his artistic gift through his work on many parish projects. Almost everyone who knew Marshall describes him as a quiet, gentle man, whose trademark was a twinkle-in-his-eye smile. Pre deceased by his brother, Stanley H. Barnes Jr. and his sister Lorna Small, Marshall was survived by his wife of 60 years, Bettejane Barnes; three children, Wendelyn Barnes and her husband Albert Knipfing, Stuart Barnes and his wife Tarrae, Jan DiTullio and her husband Steven; nine grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, and Danielle Guyder, Brittany Guyder and fiancé Eric Shenson, Andrew and Alex Barnes, Kimberly DiTullio and fiancé Michael Donahue, Lindsey and Phillip DiTullio; two great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. A visiting hour will be held in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington St. Rte. 53, HANOVER, on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 11-12 PM, followed by a memorial service with military honors at 12 PM.
