Norman Joseph Davidson, Jr., lost his heroic battle to genetic esophageal cancer on May 12, 2025 at the Pat Roache Hospice House in Hingham, surrounded by his family and comforted by the angels that work there.
Born on June 7, 1958, Norman grew up in Rockland. At the age of 17, he met Robin Whitley, age 14, and a 50 year love story began. Best friends, lovers, confidants, they were married 4 years later on August 17, 1979. Together they made 3 beautiful children and in turn, gave them their 4 amazing grandchildren.
Norman was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to always provide for his family. For almost 40 years, he worked in South Boston in the Fresh/Frozen Fish logistics industry. His work ethic was second to none.
Being with his family and friends, surrounded by love and laughter, was where he wanted to be. He enjoyed vacationing with them, especially cruises, listening to the Red Sox games by Norman’s pool (his baby) on beautiful sunny weekends. Vacationing for over 30 years, a Memorial Day Weekend ritual at the Point Sebago Resort in Maine, as well as the past 12 years with his grandchildren to Moody Beach in Maine.
Norman loved all sports and of course, all Boston teams were his teams. At large gatherings to watch the Superbowl, you could find the volume off the TV because we had him calling all the plays before the announcer or refs, and Norman nailed all the calls. Norm definitely missed his calling to be a sports announcer.
The loss of Norman is profound, the pain is very deep. Life is a gift, also one more chance. Do what you said you were going to do today or tell someone what you want to tell them today and if you get the chance to dance, just dance. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Norman is survived by his wife Robin (Whitley) Davidson, his children Joshua Davidson and his wife Ashley of Franklin, Karah Davidson and Kaleigh Davidson, both of Rockland, his grandchildren Noah Davidson, Seamus Collyer and his dad Mike Collyer, Logan Davidson, and his very special, only granddaughter, Cameran Davidson. He is survived by the Whitley Family who embraced him at 17 years old; Kevin Whitley of Plymouth, Nancy and Brian of Naples, FL, Brian and Sue of Plymouth, Sean Whitley of Quincy, Kerry Gardner and Ricky of Rockland, sister-in-law Cindy Davidson of Rockland, and brother-in-law Joseph O'Neill of Falmouth. He is survived by his family Karen Holloman and Sara Struwe of Alexandria, VA, Laurie Hoover of Greencastle, PA, Christopher Davidson of Norwood, as well as many close nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. He leaves his friends of 50 years, Kathy and Brian White, Suzanne and Eric Gillis, Pat and Terri Hennessy, all of Rockland, and Patti Wigandt of Weymouth. Norman also leaves his furry family, Shirley Girl, Ziggy and Charlie.
He was predeceased by his mother Phyllis O’Connor Davidson, brother Paul Davidson, sister-in-law Patricia O'Neill and his in-laws Paul and Shirley Whitley.
Norman’s services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give back however you can - by spreading love and kindness. Maybe adopt a companion from a shelter or just volunteer your time. We love and thank you all for your support during this difficult time. Thank you for being you.
Love, The Davidson Family
