

Paul Ernest Niemeyer, age 90, of Pembroke, MA, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 14, 2022. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Paul and Grete (Kother) Niemeyer and stepson of Amanda (Pushman) Niemeyer.
In 1939 at the age of 7, Paul and his sister were separated from their parents while on a vacation to Germany. They wound up spending all of World War II in Germany, during which time they were unable to contact their parents who were living in New York. Finally, in 1947, they were reunited.
Paul attended Woodrow Wilson High School, and after graduation, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1955. While there he was a member of the ROTC and earned a commission as a Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve. He was hired by Anaconda Wire and Cable Company that year and worked for them for 30 years in various locations, including Hastings on Hudson, NY, Tarboro, NC, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Harrisonville, MO. Upon his retirement, he moved back to the family farm in Saugerties, NY before living the last 11 years in Pembroke, MA. He was an avid fisherman and a master beekeeper. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and sharing stories of the past.
Paul was predeceased by his sister Margarete (Niemeyer) Tiedtke and his nephew Rynhold Paul Tiedtke. He is survived by his niece Heide (Tiedtke) Hawley and husband Michael of Salem, IN, and his nephews Robert Ben Tiedtke of Tivoli, NY, Hans Tiedtke and wife Mary of Hanover, MA, and Peter Tiedtke of Houlton, ME. He was beloved and will be sorely missed by numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Daily Mass will be offered in his memory on Monday, December 26th at 9 AM at Saint Mary’s Church, 392 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA.
