

William J. Shaughnessy, 67, of Rockland died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Weymouth after a short illness. The son of the late Martin E. and Malvina Richard Shaughnessy, he was born in Quincy on October 3, 1935. He was raised and educated in Rockland where he lived since 1941. Mr. Shaughnessy served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was appointed a Call Firefighter in Rockland on May 3, 1964 and a Permeant Intermittent Firefighter on March 29, 1965. On April 6, 1969, he was appointed a Permanent Full Time Firefighter and served until his retirement on September 9, 2000. Mr. Shaughnessy was a member of Local # 1602 of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts and a member of the International Association of Firefighters. He was a member of the Hanson Rod and Gun Club, a member of the Boston Spraks Club and a member of the Strawberry Valley Golf Course in Abington. He is survived by 2 brothers, Richard M. Shaughnessy of Whitman and Robert E. O'Shaughnessy of Bonita Springs FL. He was the brother of the late Edmund E. Shaughnessy, the late James Shaughnessy and the late Eleanor Connors. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 25, 2003 at 9:00 AM in Holy Family Church, 403 Union Street in Rockland. Internment in Holy Family Cemetery. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 41-45 East Water Street in Rockland on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
