Nécrologie de Frederick Victor Steury
Frederick Victor Steury, 83 of Fort Wayne, was at home when he met his Savior on Feb.26, 2021. He was born in Leo, Indiana, to the late Aaron and Mary Ann (Delagrange) Steury. Fred was a member of the Pine Hills Church on Carroll Road. He was born and raised in the Amish faith. He met the love of his life, Diane, on a blind date. They celebrated their 63"° wedding anniversary last October. Fred began his career as a masonry contractor by working with his late brother Furman. In 1972 he began his individual career as a builder and incorporated in 1986. Over the years he became an icon in the building trade in Northeast Indiana. Fred was a hard worker with a strong work ethic and knew something about everything. He was always up before the crack of dawn and kept busy all day until supper time. On several occasions, going back out even after supper to finish up whatever he was working on. Anyone that truly knew Fred, knows that he appeared to have a rough exterior. But in fact, he had a soft interior. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and always ready to tell you how to do it, too. Fred enjoyed riding in his gator around their property, tending to their pond, feeding his fish and happy hour. Fred also enjoyed deep sea fishing with his family and his buddies any chance he could get. He also enjoyed hunting trips in Wyoming. He loved traveling to foreign countries around the world with his love, Diane. He loved playing bocce ball, card games and dominos with their friends. Everyone enjoyed his chicken barbecues and fish fries. He loved watching the old western movies with his favorites; John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Back in the day, he seldom went to bed without watching The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Fred had a witty sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. But, if he was the one telling the story, he didn't laugh until everyone else did. He will definitely be missed by all who knew him. Fred is survived by his wife, Diane (Houser) Steury; their children, Ken (Charlotte) Steury of Leo, Alan (Jody) Steury of Auburn, Bryan (Ren) Steury of Spencerville and Kristine (Darin) Cooper of Spencerville; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Marie (Sam) Schwartz, Peter Steury, Barbara Rose (Sam) Eicher, Martha (Jim) Wagler and Laura (Lewis) Lengacher; sister-in-law Margaret Steury and brother-in-law Menno Graber. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by their children, Infant girl Steury and Marilyn Steury (infant); siblings, Furman Steury, Christie Steury and Amanda Graber.
