

He was born August 4, 1929, in Iredell County and was the son of the late James Frank “Pete” and Della Jane Stevenson Shoemaker. Prior to his disability retirement, he worked with the N.C. Department of Transportation. He enjoyed working outdoors, especially cutting wood, and attended Hebron Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jane Sharpe Shoemaker; five brothers, James Frank Shoemaker, Jack Stokes Shoemaker, Norris Link Shoemaker, Carl Wesley Shoemaker and Richard Shoemaker; and two sisters, Joyce Breedlove and Frances Horton Ball.
He is survived by his second wife, Joann Morris Shoemaker, whom he married on October 4, 1977; three sons, Henry Guy (Joyce) Shoemaker of Statesville, James Frank (Rhonda)Shoemaker of Olin, and Rufus Rex (Melissa) Shoemaker of Millers Creek; four daughters, Kathy (James) Carrier, Karen Sue Shoemaker, Kay (Marvin) Carrier, and Gay (Greg) Connolly, all of Statesville; three sisters, Judy Laura Holbrook, Mary Arlene Sharpe and Ruby Doris (Art) Breedlove, all of Wilkesboro; a brother, Watt Jackson “Bubba” Shoemaker of Harmony; two step-daughters, Teresa (Tommy) Holcomb and Loretta (Tommy) Worcester, both of Tupelo, Mississippi; a step-son, David Samuel Harper of Pontotoc, Mississippi; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 PM Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony.
Private family graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.
