Barbara Jean Shannon

She was the beloved daughter of the late Pearl (Getz) and Clyde Weiser, and a cherished friend and family to so many who had the privilege of knowing her.

Known lovingly as “Nanny”, Barbara was admired for her unwavering strength, generosity and deep compassion. She actively engaged in the lives of her family and friends, whether it was offering a ride or spending quality time with them. She made sure everyone around her felt loved and supported.

Barbara was educated in the Cumberland Valley School District, and later she dedicated a significant part of her life working for the state hospital. Once she retired, she found joy in playing bingo with friends, taking pictures, dining out, and cheering for her favorite football teams – The Philadelphia Eagles and the Harrisburg Cougars. Her beloved dog, Gucci, brought her happiness and the bond they shared was special.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Clyde Weiser; her brother Clyde Weiser Jr.; her daughter-in-law Tina Shannon; and her partner of over 30 years Kenneth Arrington Jr. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her son, Gary Shannon Sr.; her daughters, Jean Shannon and Betty Shannon; as well as a host of grandchildren: Paris Tarter (Roderick), Jason Shannon, Keith Wilson Jr., Iris Arrington, Timothy Nickle, Ashly Shannon, Rebecca Shannon, and Gary Shannon Jr. Additionally, Barbara was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with her nephew, Davie Weiser, and his wife, Stacy Weiser.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2025 at the Neill Funeral Home located at 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Repast will be held after the memorial at Emerald Suites Venue located at 7795 Allentown Boulevard, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
