

He was born December 14, 1926; he was the son of the late Albert R. and Olive (Kapp) Compton.
He graduated from John Harris High School.
During WWII he served in the U.S. Army in Japan under General MacArthur's command shipping out on The General Collins and coming home on The General Black. He was a T-4 and served in the 204th Ordinance.
He worked for over 16 years as a mechanic before working for the US Postal Service in Harrisburg where he retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. He then worked part-time for several years at Treeview Apartment Complex and spent his spare time repairing cars for friends.
He enjoyed cars of all kinds and loved to go with his son to watch the antique cars as they left the Hershey Car Show. He was an artist, enjoying drawing and showing his pictures to his family. Church and his family were the two most important things in his life.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary I. (Johnson) Compton; son, Reverend Jeffrey C. Compton and his wife, Susan, of Harrisburg; daughter, Beth Jacobs and her husband, Gregg, of New Bloomfield; grandson, John Compton and his wife, Kayleigh, of Hershey; cousins, Meredith Compton and Gayle (Compton) Folger; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and their families.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd, 3700 Rutherford St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM Tuesday until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund or the Organ Fund at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3700 Rutherford St., Harrisburg, PA 17111.
