David William Waite, age 70, passed away peacefully in his home in Middletown, Ohio, on Sat., Dec. 21, 2024. David was the first of six children to be born in Harrisburg, PA, to William Francis Waite and Jean Audrey (Robinson) Waite. David grew up in Harrisburg and attended Bishop McDevitt High School, where he enjoyed playing football and started dating his high school sweetheart, Joan Halbleib. After he graduated, Dave and Joan married, and he then enlisted in the United States Air Force. This was the beginning of a beautiful love story that lasted 49 wonderful years. During his years in service to his country, David and his family traveled to many states and countries, most notably Delaware, Illinois, Spain, Italy, Alaska, and took many ski trips in Germany. Dave’s last assignment sent him and his family to NORAD in Colorado Springs, where he and Joan decided to make Colorado their home. David had a fulfilling career in the Air Force and, after 20 years, retired as a Master Sergeant (E8). Over the next 6 years he continued serving his community as a Firefighter / Emergency Medical Technician for the city of Fountain, Colorado. In 2000, David graduated from the University of Phoenix in Denver, CO, with a B.S. in Business Administration, and started a career with United Healthcare as a Healthcare Insurance Underwriter. In 2008, David began working at the Cheyenne Mountain Re-entry Center as a Case Manager. In 2012, David made the decision to end his career path and continued serving his community as a volunteer at his local middle school where he enjoyed helping special needs students. David is survived by daughter Theresa Joan Alicea, her spouse, Roger Alicea of Middletown, Ohio, and daughter Tammy Marie Delauder, and her spouse, Richard Miller of Monument, Colorado. David was a proud grandfather to Aiden, Zeke, Logan, and Jacob. They were the light in his heart! David is also survived by sisters Mary Ann Waite of West Chester, PA, Rose Miller of Harrisburg, PA, and brother Paul Waite of Dillsburg, PA. David is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Marie Waite of Middletown, Ohio, his father, William Francis Waite, mother Jean Audrey Waite, brother John Michael Waite of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, and his sister, Donna Louise Goodell of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania.
Services will be held on January 15, 2025, at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, 2800 Paxton Church Rd., Harrisburg, Pa 17110; 10:00 am viewing, 11:00 am Mass, followed by the burial at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life ceremony from 2:30 – 6pm, at the American Legion Post 730, 3813 Walnut St., Harrisburg, PA 17109. The funeral service will be livestreamed and can be accessed via www.stmmparish.org.
