

Edith Lowery Chestnut, 95, passed away Sunday, June 29 2014 at the Jewish Home of Harrisburg. She was born in Florence, SC, on Sunday, May 11, 1919 to the late Sylvester and Parnese Lowery. She graduated from Wilson High School in Florence. Edith and her family moved to Harrisburg in 1958. She retired from Commonwealth of PA Dept. of Labor & Industry in 1982; a member of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ under her son-in-law, Pastor D.R. Gilmore. She served as Senior Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Church Announcer & Pastor's Aid Member. She was ordained as an Evangelist Missionary in 1992 by the late Bishop O. T. Jones, Jr. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Rev. James Chestnut, two daughters, Carolyn Smith, Joyce Rochester, one granddaughter, Kelly Burnett, one great granddaughter, Camryn Brown. She leaves to celebrate her life 3 daughters: Fran Myers, Gwen (Pastor D.R.) Gilmore both of Harrisburg, Vivian (Princeton) Browne, Buffalo, NY and a son Marc Chestnut, Cocoa, FL, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 5, 2014 in the Sanctuary of Mt. Calvary COGIC, 1830 N. 5 St., with viewing from 10 until 11 a.m. and burial at Rolling Green Cemetery.
