Karl G. Chortanoff, Jr., 82, of Harrisburg passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Kiril Chortanoff and Victoria (Myers) Miller. He was the loving husband to Theresa (Gustin) Chortanoff, whom he shared 55 years of marriage before her passing in January of 2024.
Karl was a graduate of Harrisburg High School and served his country for 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. After his time served in the military he worked for Bethlehem (Mittal) Steel Corporation for over 40 years before retiring. He enjoyed professional boxing, fishing on the Susquehanna River, playing cards, weekend trips to Atlantic City, watching his grandsons play football, and was an avid movie goer and never missed a premier of his favorite sci-fi saga, Star Trek. He adored his puppies throughout the years, most recently Abby. But most importantly he loved spending time with his family and home cooked meals that only his wife, Theresa, could make just right. He was a wonderful, loving and dedicated husband and father who will be greatly missed. We love you Pappy always and forever.
In addition to his wife, Karl is preceded in death by his brother Robert Vogt, sisters Sandra Chortanoff and Donna Vogt and his two sons Robert and Ronald Mills. He is survived by his children Karl Chortanoff III, (Julie), Karin Payton (David), William Mills and Deborah Mills. His grandchildren; Dustin Mills (Rene), Cory Mills, Amy Hackenberg (Eric), Jasmyne Payton, David Payton, III, Michael Payton, Tristina Mills and six great grandchildren; Chase, Dienna, Kayden, Jackson, Colton and Emmett. His brothers, Anthony Chortanoff (Betsy) and John Chortanoff and sister Debra Hoerner (Brian) and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held for Karl at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery; 60 Indiantown Gap Rd, Annville, PA 17003 on Thursday, April 24th 2025 at 11:30am.
