

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Yvonne Marie Wheaton, who left us serenely in her sleep on May 17, 2026 at the age of 90. Born on February 9, 1936, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Yvonne was the beloved daughter of William and Mary Shesser.
Yvonne’s life was a testament to love, laughter and unwavering kindness. She shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with her late husband Alfred T. Wheaton III, whom she married on November 9, 1958, in Harrisburg. Together they nurtured a family that would become her greatest pride and joy.
Yvonne leaves behind her cherished children: Robin Shadel and her husband Steve, son Alfred T. Wheaton IV and his wife Wendy, and daughter Christina George with her husband Michael. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, Brandon A. Wheaton (Alexis), Alfred T. Wheaton V, and Bianca M. Wheaton, as well as her great-granddaughter Jasmine Wheaton.Yvonne is survived by her brother William Shesser and her sister Corinne Shesser.
A graduate of Harrisburg Catholic High School (Bishop McDevitt), Yvonne dedicated much of her life to a career in retail, working at various establishments, including Kings Department Store, Rea&Derick Drug Store, People’s Drug Store before retiring from Weis Food Market to embrace her role as a grandmother. Yvonne’s passions were as vibrant as her personality. She was an avid bowler, a lover of Canasta, and found joy in trips to the casino and bingo nights. Her creativity shone through her love of cooking, coloring and puzzles. Known for her quick wit and warm smile, Yvonne had an extraordinary ability to make everyone she met feel like a lifelong friend.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Capital Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Harrisburg, where Yvonne formed many friendships and received compassionate care.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg. Visitation will be held in the chapel from 9:30-10:00AM, with mass to follow. Burial will take place after the mass at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.
