Minister Benny Thomas Hunter, 48, of Harrisonburg passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home.
He was born on September 7, 1969 in Washington, DC and was the son of Samuel and Owana Hamilton Hunter of Yorktown, VA.
Benny graduated from Fort Knox High School in 1988. He lived his early life in Berlin, Germany and was a member of the Berlin Brats Alumni Association. He joined the US Army and served from 1988-1992 at Fort Sill, OK, Artillery Center. He returned to the Harrisonburg area in 2002.
Benny loved to minister to everyone he met, he enjoyed spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Demarius Vantre Hunter of Alabama; a daughter, Nyahsa Lewis of Hampton, VA; his siblings, James Hamilton and wife, Robin, of Massanutten, Michael Hunter and wife, Evelyn of Harrisonburg, Jermaine Hunter and wife, Jeanette, of Dover, Del., Kareem Hunter and wife, Linda, of Harrisonburg, Samia Hunter and husband, Michael, of Rock Hill, SC, Monique VanBuren and husband, Rocky, of Yorktown, VA, and Marcus Hunter and wife, Lee, of Harrisonburg; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John M. Bruce and Lenora Hamilton of Harrisonburg, VA, Fred and Henrietta Hunter of Newport News, VA, and George and Bertha Bruce of Harrisonburg, VA.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Friday, March 2, 2018 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newtown Cemetery.
