Crystal Cumbie Hayden

Crystal Cumbie Hayden, 94, a resident of Harrisonburg passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at her home. She was born on December 2, 1924 in Lynchburg, VA and was the daughter of the late Broaddus Lee and Annie Cox Cumbie. Her family moved to Harrisonburg in 1936. On April 21, 1944 she married James Joseph Hayden, who preceded her in death on July 14, 2018. She is survived by a daughter Anna H. Steele of Harrisonburg, VA; two granddaughters, Wendi J. Steele of Henrico, VA and Traci H. Steele of Bisbee, AZ; two sisters, Beryle A. Cumbie and Faye C. Kersh both of Harrisonburg; a niece, Sharon B. Shenk of Harrisonburg; and a nephew, Ron Kersh of Williamsburg. Crystal was employed at Rockingham National Bank from 1966-1986. The family wishes to express gratitude for the compassionate care and support she received from caregivers and First Choice Hospice. A celebration of life service for Joe and Crystal will be at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Otterbein United Methodist Church with Pastor Adam Blagg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest gifts to honor Crystal be sent to Massanutten Regional Library 174, S. Main St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801 or the Salvation Army, 185 Ashby Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
