

A daughter of the late Wilhem Kaiser and Mary Ethel Deputy Croushorn, she was born on January 15, 1921, in Rockingham County. She graduated from Dayton High School and lived her life in Harrisonburg including 15 years at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. She retired from James Madison University after 38 years serving as secretary to the Dean of Students.
Edna was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church where she formerly attended Sunday school. She enjoyed needlepoint, gardening and monthly dinners with her former JMU co-workers, “The Hags”.
In October 1941, she married Joseph Bowman Ritchie who preceded her in death in June 1991. Surviving is a son, Michael A. Ritchie and wife, Jeanne, of Harrisonburg; two grandsons, Martin M. Ritchie and wife, Kathy, of Virginia Beach, and Jon “Ian” I. Ritchie and wife, Sally, of Richmond; four great-grandchildren, Tripp, Jake, Sophia, and Lydia Ritchie; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Bill Liskey, of Harrisonburg; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Pence of Harrisonburg. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and William “Bill” Croushorn; three sisters, Grace Smith, Virginia “Ditty” Green and Mary Liskey; and a special friend Edgar “Gig” Smith.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016, at 2:00 pm in the Mausoleum at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Adam Blagg officiating.
