Frances Bowman Gaines

She was born in Harrisonburg on March 29, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Mark and Mattie Rexrode Bowman.

Frances graduated from Harrisonburg City Schools and lived all her life in the Harrisonburg area. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Women’s Fellowship; she was also a member of Price Rotary. She had been employed with J.C. Penny’s and retired in 1977 from Valley Heritage.

On April 15, 1938 she married Gilbert H. Gaines, who preceded her in death on September 28, 1966.

She is survived by a son, Ronald G. Gaines and wife, Neola of Bridgewater, a daughter, Gloria Gray and husband, Rick of Harrisonburg, four grandchildren, Aaron Gray, Brenan Gray and wife, Katie, Trevor Gray and wife, Kelly, and Tyler Gray; two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Bryson Gray; a sister, Alice L. Bowman; a number of nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Michael Bowman.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Paul Bowman.

There will be no visitation and the casket will be closed.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 3, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jim Grogan officiating.
