He was born January 9, 1930, in Waltham, Massachusetts, where he grew up. Gerald was the only child of the late Gerald Percy Tabor and Hazel Beryl Schofield Tabor.
In 1949 he enlisted in the Army. He served in Germany as a Blue Spader, a division of the Big Red One, until 1953. While stationed in Germany he played goalie for the American Army hockey team and enjoyed taking pictures of the German countryside. Gerry, as he was known to everyone, attended Coyne Electrical School in Boston after his discharge from the Army. After graduation he worked in the vending industry.
Over the years he worked in other fields including matchbook advertising and real estate until he lost his hearing. Gerry was the first person in Virginia to be partnered with a certified hearing dog.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Martha Hodsdon Tabor. He is also survived by six children, Steve, Heidi, John, Sue Tabor Jackson, Matthew, and Connie Tabor Spaid; ten grandchildren, Steven, Tami, Rachael, Aaron, Lindsay, Brooke, Adelaide, Micah, Annaliese, and Mirella; and one great-granddaughter, Gabriella.
He has requested that his body be cremated and interred alongside his parents at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
