

A son of the late Robert Nathaniel and Allie Martin Clark, he was born on March 7, 1924 at Stuart, VA in Patrick County where he lived his early life and graduated from Stuart High School. Mr. Clark also graduated from Bluefield Jr. College. He was a Navy Aviator during WW II, and following his discharge, received his Law Degree from Washington & Lee University in 1948. He practiced law in Harrisonburg up until his death.
Mr. Clark was a founding member of RDC Commercial and Industrial Development Protection Organization; received recognition from the City and County in advancement of economic development, received the State Bar Tradition of Excellence Award; served as a Judge for the Harrisonburg Police Court; was appointed Commissioner in Chancery by the Circuit Court; was named Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the year; was active in the Law Review at Washington & Lee University School of Law and served on the Board of the Virginia State Bar Council.
He was the first recipient of the Virginia State Bar Outstanding General Practice Award. He was a past president of the Lions Club; a Charter Trustee of the United Way; and was active in the Democratic Party for many years.
He loved making his home in Harrisonburg and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder, and was on the Board of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Home.
On Aug. 31, 1946 he married the former Mary Ann Bradshaw who survived him. Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Marion Clark and his wife, Esther of Portland, Oregon; and H. Clay Clark, III and his wife, Margaret, of Linville; and five grandchildren, Joshua, Meghan, Martin, Patrick and Molly. Also surviving is a nephew, Martin F. Clark and four nieces, Joyce Lauby, Susan Nickell, Elizabeth Peretti and Faye Clark; and two brothers-in-law, James Watt Bradshaw, D.D.S. and wife, Mary and V. Stephen Bradshaw and wife, Christine. He was preceded in death by a daughter Susan Watt Clark, and four brothers, Robert N., Martin F., Richard A., and Harry Clark. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the Harrisonburg First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John F. Sloop officiating. Interment will be private in Woodbine Cemetery.
