

Son of the late Charles D. Holsinger and Sallie E. Fulk Holsinger Myers, he was born Jan. 6, 1918 in Broadway. A 1936 graduate of Broadway High School and he later completed aircraft maintenance training at Farmville School of Aviation. Howard served in the U.S Army Air Corps during World War II with the 9th Army Air Force, IX Engineer Command, Hq., Co.922nd Aviation Regiment participating in five European Theater of Operation Campaigns. After the war he returned to Shenandoah Valley which he dearly loved for the remainder of his lifetime. He worked for Booth Refrigeration before retiring in 1979. Howard spent his retirement years enjoying family, church activities, traveling, camping and researching family genealogy. He was among the first in the valley to raise Brittany Spaniels for hunting.
Howard was a long time member of the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School and served in many other capacities. He was a member of Campground Evangelism in the Shenandoah Valley and Florida. Howard, also, served as President of the Descendants of David Holsinger of Virginia reunion for 25 years.
On Oct. 16, 1940, he married Kathleen M. Welch of Timberville who preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1996.
He is survived by three children, Wayne Edwin Holsinger of Jeffersonville IN, Brenda Jean Hilbert of Harrisonburg and Howard Lee Holsinger II of Browns Mills, NJ; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one sister, Frances Branner of Bridgewater, five nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Jim Harrison, Roger Dove and Kerry Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 27.
The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 PM, Monday, March 21 at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene of Harrisonburg building fund or the Salvation Army.
