Jean Joseph Simmons

She was born on January 11, 1927 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Howard and Mattie Simmons Joseph.

Jean was a graduate of Mt. Clinton High School and a very active member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church. She was employed by Harrisonburg Telephone Company and for 20 years at Dunham-Bush, Inc. She also was an active volunteer for many years at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

On June 29, 1947 she married Welford C. “Dutch” Simmons, who survives.

She is also survived by a son, Dennis F. Simmons and wife, Judy, and a daughter, Gail Simmons Harrison and husband, David; two grandchildren, Jonathan Harrison and wife, Gwynn, and Julie A. Harrison of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren, William and Jake Harrison.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl E. and Nolan Joseph.

The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM, Thursday July 17, 2014 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, on Friday, July 18, at Harrisonburg Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Jones and Rev. Stacy Nowell officiating. Private burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery.
