Jessica Lee Shifflett

She was born July 10, 1980, in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of Lois Roach Dean and her husband, Jeffrey Sherman and Mark Shifflett and his wife, Ann. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Virginia Marie Dean, in 2004. She was a graduate of Spotswood High School.

Jessi was a member of Broadway and Grottoes Rescue Squads and recently worked for the Waynesboro First Aid Crew. She was a lifetime member, joining in 2001, of Grottoes Rescue having served as president, vice president, secretary, chief, captain, and sergeant. She was a medic that provided care to countless individuals throughout her EMS career. Jessi was obtaining her paramedic degree from VCU and was set to graduate in two months. Jessi was a kindred spirit. Sometimes we are fortunate enough to know people who make the world a better place, humble us with their compassion and kindness, and leave us better individuals for knowing them. For those who knew Jessi, you know how amazing she was. Many people have been touched by her compassionate soul and unmatched kindness. Whether it were the indigent that she fed and bought medication for or the everyday people around her, Jessi made you feel as if you were the only person in the world that mattered at that time. She gave you reason to continue on with your life.

In addition to her parents, Jessi is survived by her sisters, Staci Shifflett and her companion, Terry Whitt, Vanessa and Sabrina Sherman; her niece, Kaleigh, and nephew, Braylen; and her grandfather, Curtis Dean. Jessi will also be deeply missed by a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at the Spotswood High School Auditorium, 368 Blazer Drive, Penn Laid, VA 22846. Interment with EMS honors will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
