On June 22, 2011, Jimmy Driver left from his home in Harrisonburg on the next of his many adventures. As everyone who knew Jimmy saw he loved humor, music, excitement, traveling, and spending time with friends.
As a young man Jimmy developed his love for music and dancing. He used his skills in becoming the saxophone player for the band “The Top Hats”. Jimmy went on to join the Navy and ride the Pacific on an Aircraft Carrier. Upon completion of his service in California, he purchased his 1955 Ford Thunderbird convertible, which he still cherished to this day, and drove across country. He landed from that adventure back in Harrisonburg as a partner in the family business, Mick-or-Mack Grocery Stores. There he learned to have a great fondness for marketing, promotion, and especially candy!
Jimmy was raised as a southern gentleman by his wonderful parents James W. Driver and Ruby Hamilton Driver, along with his younger brother David W. Driver. Jimmy’s mother was a wonderful cook and she got her recipes right when it came to her two sons. Of course Jimmy’s recipe had a touch more daring and David a few extra drops of responsibility. In addition to David, he is also survived by a daughter, Jayme Heather Driver.
Jimmy started his greatest adventure 30 years ago with his wife, Patty Sue Driver. He was most happy traveling, collecting, and having the time of his life with their three grandchildren, (Blake, Ally, and Katelyn Loker), who will always miss their “PawPaw”. In his middle years his passion was boating and fishing with his friends, on his boat the “Hillbilly” at Virginia Beach. His love for boating continued with his “Pirate Cove” Vacation home at Smith Mountain Lake. His most recent adventure was the completion of his authentic Pirate ship for this lake retreat. Now this adventure will have to be continued by the rest of his family, son Christopher Loker and daughter-in-law Shelley, who recently moved to Richmond.
Patty invites all that have known and shared in Jimmy’s adventures to a Celebration of his Life, 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 25th, at Lindsey Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Talbott officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM before the service. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202.
