Joyce Meyers Helbraun

Joyce Meyers Helbraun, 91, of Harrisonburg, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Journey’s Crossing in Elkton. She was born July 13, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late Kalman and Gussie Meyers. Joyce graduated from Brooklyn College and most recently had been employed as a secretary in the music department at James Madison University. Mrs. Helbraun was a charter member of the Rockingham-Harrisonburg S.P.C.A. where she later served on the board; a member of Temple Beth El, the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El; and volunteered at the Skyline Literacy. She was a fantastic cook, enjoyed Broadway shows and traveling abroad. She also had many life-long friendships throughout the years that she treasured dearly. On January 22, 1950, she married Erwin Helbraun, who preceded her in death on May 31, 2010. Joyce is survived by two sons, Michael Helbraun and wife, Brenda, of Singers Glen, and Jonathan Helbraun and wife, Christy, of Elkton; and a grandson, Seth. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Levine and Lila Hyman. Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
