In 1945, she left home and traveled to Washington D.C. to work at the Pentagon in service to her Country.
On May 18, 1946, she married a young soldier, James Edward Hall, of Albemarle County in Virginia, who had recently served in the European Theatre of WWII. From that time, Laura considered herself a Virginian!
She was the daughter of John H. Crabb and Robbie E. Crabb of Commerce, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1981, two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hall Hamilton (and husband Carroll, second husband Patrick O’Connor), and Mary Hall Pace (and husband, Warren J. Pace).
Laura was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She is survived by her sons, David A. Hall (and wife Lori), and John Hall, all of Charlottesville; her daughter, Brenda Hall Robey (and husband Ron) of Rockingham County; and her grandchildren Drew Hall, Cierra Hall, Lauren Lee (and her husband Michael), Diana Cosgrove (and husband Michael), Danny Hall (and wife Ashley), John Lawrence Hall, Jeff Robey, Jennifer Robey Steinbach (and her husband Raphael), and Jason Robey (and wife Amanda); as well as 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Laura worked in her father’s store as a child and was a member of his town band. She played the saxophone. Later she became an elementary school teacher. She taught in Marshall, VA as well as in Fairfax, VA. She resided in Fairfax until retirement when she and James moved to Charlottesville. She then worked at the Stone and Thomas Department Store.
Her faith was an important part of her life. She often said, “Whenever the good Lord calls me home I’ll say I’m ready! Here I come!” She was an active member of several United Methodist Churches: Fairfax, St. George’s of Fairfax, Aldersgate of Charlottesville, Bridgewater and Mountain Valley in Rockingham County. Laura participated in crochet ministry making dozens of prayer shawls. She was known for her sunny disposition, sense of humor and love for life. If her hand wasn’t in a candy jar, she was reaching out to others with love and compassion!
A celebration luncheon will be held on November 11 at 11:30 at Mountain Valley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. A service will follow at 1:00 at the church with Rev. James Harris and Rev. Eduardo Carrillo officiating. Interment will be the same afternoon at 3:30 at the Prize Hill Cemetery, Boonesville, VA.
