

She was born on June 1, 1929 in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late John Bernard and Mary Elizabeth Pettitt Peale.
June lived her early life in Mt. Crawford and Harrisonburg, also making her home in McGaheysville prior to moving back to Harrisonburg. She had worked for Daly Shoe Factory, Sancar and retired in 2001 from L & S Diner. She was also former owner of the Little Grill.
June enjoyed gardening and flowers, just being outdoors, and was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers. She was a member of McGaheysville United Methodist Church, and had volunteered at the McGaheysville Fire Department.
June deeply loved her family and was very devoted to them in all ways. Her greatest joy was receiving calls from her friends and family and she always looked forward to their visits.
June was a strong woman who lived life on her own terms and shared her strength and compassion with all those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family especially wants to thank those who always kept in touch with June.
On June 12, 1948 she married Rudolph “Rudy” F. Sipe who preceded her in death on July 11, 1985.
She is survived by a daughter, Diana Crump of New Market; six grandchildren, Michael Hughes of Harrisonburg, Jackie Hardesty and husband, Mike of Linville, Becky Crump of San Diego, CA, Andrea McDaniel and husband, Ken, Jennifer Chapman and husband, Jason, and Lindsey Sipe; a daughter-in-law, Linda Sipe; all of Anderson, SC; five great-grandchildren, Justin Shirkey, Tyler and Rebecca Hardesty, Zaine McDaniel and Lillian Adele “Ellie” Chapman; two sisters, Lucille Gooden of FL, Alice O’Roark of Harrisonburg; one brother, Pat O. Peale of GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
June was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Sipe; five brothers, John Franklin Peale, Marshall Peale, William “Bill” Peale, Walter Peale, and Charles “Bobby” Peale.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 PM, Thursday, June 30, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 1, 2011 at McGaheysville United Methodist Church with Rev. David Lagerveld and Rev. Michael Quayle officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
