

She was born on December 5, 1941 in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of Elizabeth Brown Funkhouser of Harrisonburg and the late D. Eugene Funkhouser.
Millie graduated from Madison College, now JMU, in 1964 and started her teaching career in Roanoke County from 1964-1970; from 1970-1978 she taught K-3rd grades at Falling Creek Elementary School in Richmond. In 1978, she took the position of Elementary Personnel Specialist in Chesterfield County and in 1995 she was appointed Personnel Administrator. She retired on July 1, 2001. Millie received many awards for her teaching achievements through the years. She enjoyed people and always had a positive disposition with a great sense of humor; she loved her family dearly.
On December 26, 1965 she married, Wendell E. Turner, who preceded her in death on September 22, 2012.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Donna F. Simmons of Harrisonburg; a number of cousins, including first cousin, Anita Wayland of Harrisonburg; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Billy Turner and wife, Fran, of Schenectady, NY, Shirley Tomney of The Villages, FL, Lois Will and husband, Lowell, of Midlothian, and Elaine Stillwell and husband, Jerry, of Stanley.
The family will receive friends 7-8:00 PM, Thursday, February 28, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, March 1, at the Chapel with Rev. Ellen Martin officiating. Burial will be private at Dayton Cemetery.
