Roger is survived by his children, Margaret Kadish-Bruns (wife Emily), Andrew Charles Bruns (wife Alison) and their children Nicolas, 11, Liam, 22, Gabrielle, 23 and his great-granddaughter, Gabby's daughter Amelia.
Roger was proud to be the son of Charles and Margaret (Locus) Bruns, and the brother of Richard Bruns, all deceased.
Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Roger was a graduate of Monsignor Farrell High School and Brooklyn College before enlisting in the United States Navy. After his service as a surface warfare officer, Roger continued a career of specialized engineering expertise while traveling the world before his retirement in 2018.
The details of his life are easy to recount, but the impact he had on our lives is too complex to explain to strangers.
The people who know his contributions at work aren't talking.
The music he taught us to love has been playing for decades.
The recipes he cooked are as familiar to us as our own names.
The stories he told were told so many times it drove us crazy.
He loved his children and grandchildren, he loved jazz, he loved golf, and he loved the Yankees.
His values, the lessons he learned, his rules for living, and his patriotism will all live on. He was too stubborn to let us forget them, and we turned out too stubborn to let him down.
